Wedding Favours

Wedding Favours, alternatively known in North America and Europe as ‘Bridal’ Favors, were originally a tradition in Western cultures where the guests were presented with small gifts, from the Bride and Groom, as a gesture of appreciation during their wedding reception.

This tradition is believed to have originated from Italy, where they were called ‘Bomboniere’, also known as ‘favors’. They used Five sugared almonds, known in Italian as ‘Confetti’, and they were put into a bag, traditionally made of tulle or satin, and tied with ribbons. The 5 sugared almonds symbolised Happiness, Wealth, Long Life, Health and Fertility.

This tradition of giving Wedding Favours can be traced back through history to the European aristocrats who gave them to celebrate the bridegroom’s new life. This tradition is now shared in cultures worldwide and Wedding Favours have now become part of wedding reception planning, particularly in the UK, USA and Canada.
